is a sunny warm day in brookhaven and has me gleefully anticipating a mississippi spring, which is perhaps the most beautiful month you can spend in this state…that also means the return of baseball, which is about my favorite spectator sport ever as it involves sunshine, beer, and peanuts…

i got to spend the weekend with some good friends from college and had quite the time…jeff, dan, patrick, heath, and i all rendezvoused at lucky’s house in oxford on friday night…i haven’t had the chance to spend time with heath or patrick recently and it was good to catch up over lucky’s signature jambalaya…saturday was perhaps one of the biggest negative days ever (negative days are not ‘bad’ days but days that do not seem to ever begin, they almost seem not to count to me for some reason)…from sunlight to sunset it rained continually and the day looked as if it was stuck permanently at 6 am…after stopping at betty davis for an adventure filled bbq lunch we headed to heath’s place in memphis…it was hard to get active considering the murky day we’d been subjected to all day long but we finally hit the town around 10:30…

heath was set on taking us to wild bill’s, a blues club in north memphis and it proved not to dissapoint…wild bill’s only serves 32 oz beer and a bonus menu item is made to order fried chicken wings…any place where it is normal to be sipping on a huge beer and gnawing on a chicken bone while listening to some kicking memphis flavored blues gets 5 stars from me for sure…

after getting back to oxford with lucky on sunday we took a driving tour of lafayette county…lucky’s been scouting areas outside of oxford where he’d like to buy some land and/or house…our tour took us to some of the highest elevations in the hill-country that north mississippi is famous for…three days worth of cloud’s finally cleared out and we were treated to some beautiful, blue-skyed vistas that are not very common in our neck of the country…

on my way back to brookhaven i stopped in jackson to meet with jen, jess, and casey at flashback, a new video store/hang out spot across the street from millsaps college on state street…it’s a cool little location with an eclectic selection of rental movies, plus it serves light food and coffee…we’d set up a meeting to get anyone interested together to discuss the vitalization of jackson’s somewhat fractured artistic community…the explanation of this warrants it’s own post, but in short, there are tons of creative people all over jackson, yet there are few avenues open at this point for the ressurection and maintenance of an artistic community, though more positive gains have been made in the last 2 years than i’ve ever seen happen simultaneously…i think just a little more pushing will get the ball rolling at a momentum that will make a viable, close-knit art community inevitable…so that’s what we’re trying to tackle…are you interested in helping/participating? if so please drop an email…there will be plenty more coming on this via a&w as plans progress…

alright, a month’s worth of getting ducks in a row awaits, so i’m outta here…
