"…and not for five minutes will I be distracted from the wonder…"

heh, this one’s all over the place…much like myself these days…

it’s a beautiful rainy day in the neighborhood…i can’t remember the last time we had a good rain and as it’s a work saturday for me and i’m all alone @ the bookstore, it’s nice to look outside and see the world all misty and wet…makes me feel like i’m not missing anything :)…plus it’s an excellent excuse to pull out boards of canada’s geogaddi and give it a good listen…the perfect soundtrack for the grey day…

it’s already been a good weekend in the city…lemuria’s foray into fondren’s artMix on thursday went very well…the Broken String Band was grand, I enjoyed Silas’ reading, the porch was an ideal location, and the evening was pleasantly cool though a little cloudy…after a stop in @ Josh and Lindsey’s new place i took a trip to Soulshine which proved that Jay’s BEGIN@SOULSHINE idea has taken off quite nicely…the place was packed and PPuckett and i had a couple of good dart games with Josh and Lindsey…and Jay, may i publicly express my continual wonder at your ability to both capture and direct the mood with your tune selections…i can’t remember what song i was tapping my toe to when you hit me/us with Dr. Octagon’s ‘Blue Flowers’…and it worked…and ‘Blue Flowers’ doesn’t work that well in many places…well played, sir, well played…

the bookstore has finally allowed me to leave the premises to write code…we’ve been trying to formulate and create a true-blue shopping cart system for the bookstore for the last 6 months or so and it was just going nowhere trying to do it in the store…too many distractions…plus the bookstore has been about 15 years behind the times when it comes to technology (i can bitch about our POS system all day long) so it’s been a chore to code around all the deficiencies and caveats that more common e-commerce solutions don’t have to deal with…but we’re finally getting some where and hopefully i’ll have that up and running by thanksgiving…friday was my second day staying @ home to work on it and the difference in progress is quick to see…i’d stayed inside all day, lying in bed working on my laptop and was much surprised to walk outside around 4:30 and find it CHILLY…a search through my clothes revealed that i have only one warm long-sleeve shirt up here…all my other cool weather clothes are in brookhaven so i’ve got to get down there sometime soon and pick them up…

there was a lot going on in town last night, namely everyone getting together @ soulshine to watch the debate and celebrate Donna’s, Todd’s and Jay’s birthday, but after being there the night before and having stared @ the computer all day i didn’t really feel like facing the bar scene…instead Bobby, Melissa, Jakob, Beebo, Josh, Lindsey, Hannah and Foxy all came over to the house and we cooked a big batch of spaghetti, drank red wine, watched the debate and had a good visit…Bobby and I got a game of college football in on the ps2 (we have a huge rivalry b/w us with that game) and i edged out his Southern Miss Eagles with Cal by a touchdown’s margin…

and speaking of football, tonight is a test for true LSU Tiger fans…the game at Florida, though likely not as ugly as the game at Georgia last week, is going to be a tough one that we will very likely lose…i’ll probably watch it with Graham and be sure to hit the town afterwards to shake the chill of defeat…but i’m pulling for you Tigers, i’m pulling for you…

and on a random geek note …was reading the morning’s news and found this mentioned on slashdotthis little plugin lets you use your gmail account as a disk drive on a windows based pc…simply install it and look under ‘my computer’ and there’s a new drive called ‘GMail drive’…login with your gMail username/password and you can use it just like a normal drive as long as you’re connected to the internet…i’d been wondering what to do with my gMail account, since having unlimited storage with my ashesandwater account means i really didn’t need another email address…now i can just use it as a remote drive for things i want to use b/w home and work…

so all in all the world is rolling along quite nicely…jackson seems to be doing very well for itself art and community wise and i’m getting some good work done on the things that pay the bills…all the while i seem to have had my head in the clouds as i wander through all of this, just floating through and watching all the pretty things pass in a fuzzy perspective where the distance brings light and smiles…i’ll attribute a lot of that to the coming of fall…my modes and moods generally shift when the cold comes…or maybe i knocked something into or out of place in my bike wreck last weekend in baton rouge (remind me to show you my scar, it’s a good one…josh even approves and he’s a tough judge)…either way, i always look forward to the low days and that old, sweet, familiar melancholy that comes with watching the wind whip against bare branches when all the world has fallen down around us and the smell of woodsmoke brings the promise of warmth…perhaps we can share such an afternoon soon…

geogaddi is done and it’s time for clem snide’s your favorite music that jay gave me a couple of weeks back…grand album…check it out…

PS: sweet mother of god…that was one of the scariest, most fun LSU games that i’ve EVER watched…damn damn damn…what a game…off to celebrate…
