merry christmas everybody! hope you’ve spent it in fine holiday style…it’s been a lazy christmas day in brookhaven with just mom, dad, graham and the pets…a lot of our day has been spent pondering what answer nick saban will give to the miami dolphins in regards to being offered their head coaching position…he’s set to announce his decision in about an hour…while i will understand if he takes the job, it’d be a great christmas present to have him @ LSU for a couple of more years…i think they have another shot @ a national championship if he’ll stick around…regardless, he’s done well and will always be highly regarded in LSU circles…alright, enough football talk…happy holidaze everyone!

Creative Minds Open House on Saturday

Uncategorized — d-ashes on December 15, 2004 at 10:27 am

My friend Teresa Haygood just sent an email about her annual Christmas open house/party. She is an artist that works out of her home and makes all sorts of neat things. What better way to do some Christmas shopping than going to a party (plus you’re supporting a local artist)? That’s about as painless as it gets! Swing by if you get the chance.

4th Annual
Creative Minds Open House

Join me at my home for a holiday sale featuring the works of Creative Minds and friends. There will be many goodies for you to purchase as a last minute gift, and lots of holiday cheer to go around. It’s a chance for us to come together one last time before we are kidnapped by our families, and…most importantly, a chance to bypass the mall!

When? THIS Saturday, December 18th, 6:00 to 10:00pm
Where? 2454 North Cheryl Drive map
Who? Anyone and everyone! Bring a friend.

i want to give a big public thank you to ed inman for his backyard showing of ‘garden state‘ last night…for those of you that don’t know, ed has a mini drive-in (walk-in??) theater setup behind his house on meadowbrook heights…every now and again he’ll invite people over and show a movie…i’ve never been to a true drive-in theater before so this was my first real outdoor movie experience and it was a blast…first, as i’d heard from everyone who’d seen it, the movie was just great…it really develops a comfortable atmosphere that makes its more serious moments that much more poignant…second, being able to throw down a blanket to lie on and sip a flask of cheap whiskey while you’re watching a film really adds to the experience…

the weather was great and it was a treat to look past the screen and see convoys of clouds, cast in that sodium vapor street light orange, rolling by…i think i would have enjoyed the movie no matter where i saw it, but i don’t think i would have enjoyed it near as much in a regular theater or @ my house on television…when we had arrived there were only 5/6 of us there, but when i looked back during the reel change there were 10 or 15 people including families, which made for a nice community atmosphere…so thanks again, ed, you done good and let’s do it again soon…
ps – ‘garden state’ shows again tonight @ hal and mal’s (big room, 7:30 pm) as part of the crossroads film series…graham and i are watching monday night football, but if you’ve got the chance, go see the movie and support local showings of indie films…

congrats panthers…

the brookhaven high school panthers won the MS state division 4A football championship on saturday night, so big congrats to them…the team overcame some bad calls by the refs and by the end of the 3rd quarter were dominating on both sides of the ball…jimmy johns, the outstanding qb for bhs ended clarksdale’s last drive with an interception, capping off a great performance on both offense and defense…graham even made it on to tv with a great one handed catch of a souvenir football thrown by a cheerleader, all while balancing his newly refreshed ‘good coke’ in the other hand…

the terrible tale of the rambunctious thighs…

it’s been quite the week of catching up with old friends…had a blast with ferd, jeremy, and emmie on tuesday night…got to see ‘The Blooms’ for the first time live and they were quite good…we stayed up til 5 am throwing darts and catching up at the house afterwards…ferd had his two dogs, delta (lab) and hazel (bloodhound) and they were quite the entertainment in themselves…

on wednesday lemuria hosted ‘blue moon, jr.’…sonny brewer, suzanne hudson, joe formichella, dayne sherman and grayson and ron everett capps all came up from fairhope, al to read and for grayson to play some tunes…afterwards, bobby, melissa and i met up with suzanne, joe, grayson, ron, and maryanne @ the edison walthall for dinner and drinks…bobby and melissa were celebrating their 2 year anniversary (dating not married, that comes next december) and we had great steaks and some good drinks…the elder mr. capps is quite the yarn spinner and we pretty much sat back and let him regale us with tales…oh, to spend a cold evening in a warm bar with whiskey and southern writers talking and drinking…that evening i will cherish for a good long while…

tomorrow night my alma mater, brookhaven high school, plays for its first ever state 4a highschool football championship at veteran’s stadium here in jackson…they’ve got a great team with a quarterback that does some amazing things..i really hope that lsu has some scouts @ this game…getting jimmy johns @ lsu would be incredble…a bunch of graham’s and my high school friends are coming into town and i’m looking forward to a great, cold football game…see you out on the town afterwards…
