The Summer of Tumultuous Change

Uncategorized — d-ashes on May 25, 2005 at 5:00 pm

Wow. A lot has gone down in the last 3 hours.

It’s with a great deal of excitement and with more than a slight tinge of
sadness that I can report that I will be moving to Baton Rouge within the next
month. I’ve landed a job with a really good web design firm called Kfx2
located down there. They do good work, including sites and graphics for
LSU and are really keen on open source software and programming, which
is a huge plus. Also, as many of you know, I’m a rabid LSU fan, so
being at Ground Zero of the Bayou Bengal’s madness will be a treat for
sure.

Having said that, I’d also like to tell all of you here in Jackson how much
I will miss you. Especially my man Bobby, partner in crime at the LemuriaBooks.com.
There has been no better nor dearer friend to me here in Jackson for the last
3 years. And to all the rest of you, especially the Wrecking Crew: kickin’
it with you guys the last year and a half will always be some of my fondest
memories of Jackson. What I can remember, that is.

Aside from missing my days with Bobby at Lemuria, I will
particularly miss the bookstore in its own right. As I said in my
resignation letter:

I have really enjoyed the three years that I have spent here at the bookstore
and part of me feels that I could work the rest of my life here surrounded
by the outstanding camaraderie and atmosphere of books, authors and knowledge
that this bookstore fosters. At the same time there is also a part of me that
knows an opportunity of this caliber does not happen by very often and that
I must jump to take it when it does.

Before we get all teary-eyed, though, I guess we should keep in mind I’m only
3 hours down I-55 and I will be no stranger to the Bold New City (save during
college football season).

I could fill pages and pages with what Jackson means to me (and maybe one
day I will) but let it suffice for now just to say that this city is, and always
will be, my home.

MS Film Makers Score with Parody

I’m running around on the web today and find an article on a new
Star War’s parody that’s gotten pretty popular on the Internets leading
up to the
release of ‘Revenge of the Sith’. I check the dateline and lo and
behold, it’s Jackson, Mississippi! The guys that made it are from
McComb (which means they got electricity! Sorry, little Lincoln County
ribbing there). I guess I have to rethink my highschool soccer coach’s
addage, which he imparted before playing our I-55 south rivals (‘Guys,
nothin good ever came out of McComb. When I was your age I’d chase any
girl there was to be chased, but I never went after a girl from
McComb’). Check out the article here and the film here.
Look @ Mississippi representin’ in the 21st century! Oh, and please pardon the
lack of posts, but since the return from vacation I’ve either been
slaving away at the new Lemuria site or taking it easy with cold (and
thankfully cheap) beer and baseball. The Iceland pics are coming
Jaysus, I swear. Really. For true. Watch that damn Star Wars film in
the interim.
