Last night I had E, Ms. XTC and BobbyP, and Wrestlerette and Wgo over for a lazy Solstice celebration. The idea was to get together and have one last relaxing evening before we all headed into each of our holiday madnesses. I had requested that everyone bring a piece of literature along the lines of the ancient Solstice celebrations themes of rejuvenation and friendship to share. I was having a really hard time finding something, so yesterday afternoon I wrote this instead. I’m posting it to pass along to all my family and friends, especially those of you that I will not get to share any time with this holiday season. (more…)
Last night was the second installment of a ‘salon’ that Wgo initiated with his birthday dinner 2 weeks ago. The format is pretty loose: the host picks a theme and the attendees bring something in the realm of art, poetry or prose to share based upon that theme. For the first run, Wgo asked us to bring works related to ‘love, death, and food’ and while he and A-Ron served us an 8 course meal, E, Wrestlerette, The Commish and I sat around sharing the poetry and prose we had selected. Not much to report really. Since Sunday’s Saint’s game in New Orleans, I’ve been prepping and resting up for the last big road trip of the year. E and I, plus Wgo and Wrestlerette are taking a 3 day weekend to go to Lucky’s wedding shin-dig up in Oxford Towne. One of the few big minuses in moving down to Baton Rouge has been my loss of proximity to Oxford. This is my first trip back there since moving Deeper South and I’m beyond excited at the idea of a chilly evening out around the Square, an afternoon in a hushed corner of Square Books, and a visit to Rowan Oak. And that’s before I even contemplate all the hometown and undergraduate friends that will be in attendance. It will be a high-flying weekend, for sure.
